The way it works is simple:

1. The user scans the QR Code that BYO Booth displays on the screen, or from printed signage. 
2. The user takes a photo or selects one from their device to upload to the cloud.
3. BYO Booth watches for new photos, downloads them, and then displays and/or prints them with your template.

Adding the ability to upload photos via QR Codes will now ensure that everyone is able to participate in the BYO Booth experience. With BYO Booth, there truly is a Booth in Your Pocket!

Social Booth now has its own built in Background Removal Service, eliminating the need for remove.bg. You can purchase credits directly from within the software. Credit packs are $10 for 100 credits, which is a fraction of the cost of remove.bg's subscription or pay as you go plans.

As many users know, Twilio has started requiring A2P 10DLC registration in order to send SMS messages. In order to register your company with Twilio, you must now follow the instructions found here.  If you haven't done this, you may have noticed that your SMS messages are no longer sending from your booth. The registration can take a few days to a few weeks and has left many photo booth owners in a panic trying to figure out how to send photos to their customers. We've written about a few alternatives already, QR Code to Phone with Photo Booth Cloud, and Free Internal Email for Photo Booths. Today, we're introducing a 3rd option, an Internal SMS Server for Social Booth and Photo Booth Connected. 

What is the Internal SMS Server for Social Booth and Photo Booth Connected?

The Internal SMS server is an alternative to having to use Twilio in Social Booth and Photo Booth Connected. It allows you to send SMS from your Photo Booth or Sharing Kiosk without having to set up Twilio. The cost is the same at $0.02/message, and you can purchase message credits directly inside the program.

You can now accept payments right from your photo booth with QR Codes. Simply link your Stripe account to Social Booth and Photo Booth Cloud takes care of the rest.

Old Method - Cash Acceptors and Credit Card Readers in Social Booth

As previously explained here in this blog article, you already can integrate physical payment devices into Social Booth via the Triggers tab in the settings. Essentially, the software waits for a keystroke to indicate that payment has been made. The hardware will send its "paid" signal to be converted to a keystroke. You then assign that keystroke for the trigger to start the booth. This method works great and is already used by thousands of photo booths, but it does have its downsides. Mainly, it's somewhat difficult to set up and requires a lot of 3rd party hardware. Eliminating the setup time and extra equipment is the main reason for developing the QR Code payment system.

New Method - QR Code Payments with Photo Booth Cloud in Social Booth

To accept payments via QR Codes in Social Booth, you will need:

1. Social Booth - Social Booth is the software that will run your photo booth and collect payments.
2. Stripe - Stripe is a payment processor that handles credit card transactions. It's how you will get paid.
3. Photo Booth Cloud - Photo Booth Cloud is the bridge between Social Booth and Stripe. It communicates with Social Booth, so it knows when payments have been processed.

Integrating Stripe with Social Booth

Once you have signed up with Stripe, you will need 2 things: A Stripe API Key, and a Product ID. If you have multiple booths, you can have multiple products with different prices. You will only need 1 API Key.

Create a Product in Stripe

1. Click on the Products tab in the top menu and then click on the Add Product button.

2. Enter a name for your product, and set a price. Be sure to set the payment to One Time and not Recurring. Leave all other options default and save your product.

Generate a Stripe API Key

1. Click on the Developers tab in the top menu and then click on API Keys.

2. Click Create Secret Key and enter an Name for your key.

3. Copy and save the API Key. Save the key in a safe place for future use. You will need to enter this in the Social Booth Settings. 

Setting up Photo Booth Cloud

Step 1: Register for Photo Booth Cloud
The first step is to sign up for Photo Booth Cloud. Photo Booth Cloud provides cloud storage for your photo booth and allows your guests to access their photos either by visiting your website, or directly at the booth, via a QR Code. Register for Photo Booth Cloud here.

Step 2: Create an Album for your event
There are 3 different types of Albums in Photo Booth Cloud:
1. Booth to Website
2. Booth to Phone
3. Pay With QR Code.

For this example, we are going to use Pay With QR Code.

Step 3: Enable Photo Booth Cloud in Social Booth and select your Album
When you enable Photo Booth Cloud in the Social Booth admin, you will need to log in and select the album you created in the previous step.

Setp 4: Enable Pay With QR Code
Enable the Pay With QR Code option and enter the Stripe API Key. Next, select the product you created. The QR Code can be shown before the session, so payment is required to use the booth, or it can be shown when the user hits the Print button, so the user can use the booth, but has to pay in order to print.

Scan a QR Code from the Photo Booth to Download Photos on Phone: The Step-by-Step Process

It couldn't be easier to set up QR Code downloading in Social Booth.

Step 1: Register for Photo Booth Cloud
The first step is to sign up for Photo Booth Cloud. Photo Booth Cloud provides cloud storage for your photo booth and allows your guests to access their photos either by visiting your website, or directly at the booth, via a QR Code. Register for Photo Booth Cloud here.

Our built-in email service is simple to use 

As previously reported here, Sendgrid has made setting up email for your photo booth increasingly difficult. These steps are now required in order to use Sendgrid:  

• All accounts are required to enable 2-factor authentication.
• Emails sent via the Sendgrid API now require an API key.
• "From" addresses and domains must be verified. This requires modifying DNS records on your web host, which is often a complicated process.

Save money

As for cost, although Sendgrid offers a free plan that allows you to send 100 emails a day, most events will go over 100 emails, so you will need to subscribe to a paid plan for $19.99/month. Our email service is free for all users with valid licenses and who maintain current software updates on their license. Ditching Sendgrid will save you $240 per year.

Configuration

As shown here, there's nothing to configure in order to use the built-in email service. Emails will come from a generic address with your From Name and Reply To address. If you want emails to come from a specific domain, you will still need to use Sendgrid or SMTP, but most users will really benefit from this new service.

What happened to my Texts?

If you are using Twilio in Social Booth or Photo Booth Connected, you should have received a notice from Twilio regarding their new A2P 10DLC policy. Unregistered A2P 10DLC phone numbers will be blocked from sending messages in the US after August 31, 2023. Complete the registration process to avoid disruption in your message delivery.

What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. Carriers in the US consider all Twilio traffic to be A2P. Carriers’ A2P 10DLC offerings provide better delivery quality and lower filtering risk than long code SMS of the past, using the same phone numbers.

What does this mean?

All major US carriers are requiring A2P 10DLC number registration. Now, any SMS or MMS message you send to a US phone must go through an approved application-to-person (A2P) campaign.

What do I need to do?

To complete 10DLC registration, you'll need to complete the three following steps:

1. Brand - Provide information about who is sending the messages.
2. Campaigns - Register what is being sent for each of your use cases and how you'll manage customer consent.
3. Numbers - Add the 10DLC phone numbers to be registered for that Campaign into a Messaging Service.

With this in mind, Social Booth has gone hands free.  Guests no longer have to touch the screen to start the booth or be sent a digital copy of their photo.  

What is a contactless photo booth?

A contactless photo booth is a photo booth that no one touches.  It is completely hands free and operates via a QR code.  Users simply pre-register on their mobile device with their sharing infomation and Social Booth takes care of the rest. It will automatically start, take the photo and send it to the user all without touching a thing.

Why do I need a contactless photo booth?

Normal photo booth operation involves guests touching the screen to start the booth and to type in email addresse, phone number and social media login information. In the new normal that we live in, we must be extra conscious of spreading germs and sanitization.  Letting your guests know that you can use your photo booth safely and without touching anything is invaluable as events begin to open up again.

How do I set up a contactless photo booth using Social Booth?

The process is very simple.

1. Users visit http://www.notouchbooth.com with their mobile phone where they can register to use the photo booth. This can be relayed via signs or the following QR code:
   
    
2. Users select whether they would like to receive their photo via email or SMS and enter their information.
   
    
3. A QR code is generated to use the booth and send their photo.
4. Enable the "Start Booth with QR Code" option in Social Booth. You'll find the link to the Registration page there as well.
   
    
5. Enable Auto Start Live View in Social Booth
   
    
6. Enable Email/SMS
7. Turn off Filters and Animated Gifs as this version only supports contactless photos.
8. The user then approaches the booth and holds up their phone with the QR code and the Booth will begin the countdown.  You may need to set a longer countdown than normal to allow them to get into place.
9. Social Booth will then take the photo and automatically send it to whatever email or phone number the user registered with.

In our previous update to BYO Booth, we added the ability to run a virtual photo booth via SMS/MMS using Twilio.  Unfortunately, Twilio doesn't support MMS outside of the US and Canada.  Fortunately, we've come up with a solution.  You can now run the same virtual photo booth via WhatsApp and Twilio. The functionality is the same.  You set up a template in BYO Booth and users will send photos to your WhatsApp number.  BYO Booth will add your template and send the final photo back to the user on WhatsApp.  Setting up WhatsApp on Twilio takes a few steps, so here's instructions on how to get setup.

1. In your Twilio account, go to Programmable SMS

2. Click on the WhatsApp menu item

3. Activate the sandbox

4. Click on the Senders menu item

5. Click the sign up button

6. Fill out the form to request to enable your Twilio number for WhatsApp

7. To complete the request, you will need to have a Facebook Business Manager ID.

8. Either login to your Facebook Business account, or create one. here

9. Back in Twilio, go to Senders and add your Twilio nuber as an enabled sender.

10. Click the configure link for your number.

11. Add your website URL in the field for When a Message comes in.

Once Twilio approves your request, you will be able to send and receive messages from WhatsApp in BYO Booth.

Running Social Booth as your Mirror Booth Software? There's 2 new features in the "Sign Photo" options, emoji stamps and brush colors.  When users sign their photos, they can now change the brush color with a color picker.  They can also use emoji stamps to further decorate their signature.  These stamps are customizable so you can use your own images.

1. Sign up for a Twilio account here.

2. Add your website to your messaging webhook in your Twilio settings.

3. Set up your Twilio account in BYO Booth.  

4. Add your template and overlay for incoming photos.

5. Have your vitual guests send their photos to your Twilio number.
6. BYO Booth monitors your phone number for new photos and downloads them.
7. BYO Booth will add your template to the photo and send it back to the sender via SMS

You may not be able to offer live printouts, but you can still add your clients logo and branding to user's photos and they can upload them to social media from their own devices.

Here's an exciting new addition to Social Booth V. 2.4.97, Snapchat Filters!  By using Snapchat's Snap Camera application, you can now use live Augmented Reality in Social Booth.  You can even create your own filters for your client!

1. Download and install Snap Camera here.
2. Start Snap Camera and select your webcam source.  (Snap Camera only supports webcam)

3. Select some of your favorite filters by clicking on the star.

4. Go into the Favorites menu.

5. Edit the hotkeys to switch between your favorite filters

6. Use your number pad 1-8 to assign hotkeys.  The maximum # of filters supported by Social Booth is 8.

7. Open Social Booth and select "Snap Camera" as your webcam source.  You may also want to enable "Pause After Shot" to allow the user to change filters in between shots.

8. Go to the Filters tab and enable Snapchat filters.  Type in the # of filters you are using.  If you would like the user to be able to cycle through the filters using arrows on the screen, enable that option as well.  Otherwise, you can use a wireless keyboard to change the filters for the user.

Looked and tried others but liked the GUI and the options it gave for guests and the ease of use to configure as I wanted it not tied down by what they wanted you to have.  And you gave great support with yourself and the rest of the team also to answer any questions.

What features do you use to stand out from your competition?
Photos and Videos, 1-4 photos, Message Video or LipSync Videos, Greenscreen for all.  Sometimes include Animated Gif backgrounds.  Only share to either mobile phones or email address - people in UK don't like entering FB or Twitter details at an unknown kiosk sorry to say. And no printing either (keeps it really simple and guests just love getting it on the own mobile phones in seconds.  Also displayed outside the booth with SlideShow2 so get an instant display of themselves where everyone laughs too.  Also use the FTP option and have self php script to automatically have an live instant online gallery for anyone to view photos or videos via a ticket username and password given when guests leave the booth.

You use SB for a lot of dubsmash events. Tell us about those.
Guest tables have a printout of the lipsync songs available at the booth so can practice a little bit if they want.  All songs are exactly 60 seconds long with the best and known words and chorus included.  Mostly use the Lipsync Videos at parties and the Message Videos at weddings.
